The 1st day of Winter is coming, are you getting ready? Did you know our seasons change not because of the temperatures, but the shifting of the sun. Winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight during the whole year. In the Northern Hemisphere, it occurs around December 21 or 22.
As a Mom or Dad, what are you doing to prepare for building up your children’s health, and your health? Are you taking extra supplements to build up yours and your family’s immune system?
Not eating healthly, being sedentary, not getting enough sleep, and being under chronic stress can all contribute to a weak immune system. When your immune system is depleted, bacteria, viruses, or toxins can overwhelm the body. The result? You get sick.
We all work on staying healthy year round, but it seems during the cold months when we are inside for longer periods of time (children in school) inside celebrations, etc. We tend to share and pass around more germs.
What are some ways to build up your immune system?

Eat healthy, reduce sugar, eat foods rich in Antioxidants. Such as dark green, red, yellow, and orange fruits and veggies. Try berries, citrus fruits, kiwi, apples, red grapes, kale, onions, spinach, sweet potatoes, and carrots.
Other immune-boosting foods include fresh garlic, which may have antiviral and antibiotic properties, and old-fashioned chicken soup. Studies show that, if you do come down with a cold a bowl of steaming chicken soup can ease inflammation and help you get well faster.
Mushrooms such as reichi, maitake, and shiitake may have a strong influence on immune function as well as enhance the production of chemicals that help your body respond to infection.
